Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) has a new mascot, and now that mascot needs a name.
According to a release, NOVA’s new mascot is the NOVA Nighthawk.
“We’re asking everyone in the community to help us select a name for our NOVA Nighthawk. Participants can vote for one of the proposed names or write in something different. In addition, people are encouraged to lobby for their favorite name through the hashtag #NameYourNighthawk,” stated NOVA President Scott Ralls in a release.
The process to establish a mascot for NOVA began two years ago, according to a release.
Students from NOVA’s Communication Design Program helped to develop the logo for the new mascot, stated a release.
“Now we plan to name our Nighthawk and create a mascot suit so our mascot can appear at athletic games and other events. We’re looking forward to exploring opportunities for our mascot to engage with the greater Northern Virginia community,” stated NOVA College Activities Coordinator Brian Anweiler in a release.
Voting for the name of the mascot begins this week, and continues through September 23.
