House hunters and aspiring tenants can learn more about both housing options on Saturday.
First Home Alliance is hosting the eighth annual Northern Virginia Housing Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria, according to a release from Prince William County.
The free event is held in coordination with Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington counties, and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church.
It will offer several exhibits that highlight home ownership and rental options in Northern Virginia.
Attendees can also participate in workshops that cover a range of topics, including senior housing and rental assistance.
“The workshops are going to provide information on programs for down payments, closing cost assistance and the process of getting approved,” Prince William County’s Community Planning and Development Division Chief Joan Duckett said in a release. “They’re going to give information on what is required to buy a home, getting ready to buy a home and a lot more.”
Participants can speak with government officials about region-wide programs, as well.
“They will talk about which programs are opened or closed, if they have waiting lists, and things like that. They will also be talking about transitional housing,” Duckett said. “The rental portion is also going to give information on rental programs as far as jurisdictions that may have affordable dwelling units for rent.”
Lenders will also be available to speak with those interested in buying a home.
“These lenders will have the information there,” Duckett said. “They won’t actually approve them there, but they’ll do the pre-qualification.”
