Two dozen grants are helping address homelessness throughout the country.
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) is receiving $2.5 million from the Day 1 Families Fund.
The fund was established by MacKenzie Bezos and Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s chief executive officer. It distributes grants to non-profits that are addressing homelessness, according to a release.
NVFS is the former operator of the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center in Woodbridge.
The Oakton-based non-profit is among 24 organizations that are receiving a total of $97.5 million in funding.
It will use the grant to provide housing for individuals and support services for families in need.
“Receiving an investment from the Day 1 Families Fund is truly an honor,” NVFS President and CEO Stephanie Berkowitz said in a release. “For nearly a century, NVFS has been an innovator in solving the most critical community issues. This investment will accelerate NVFS’ efforts in implementing and developing solutions, models and practices to address family homelessness in Northern Virginia.”
