Pitkin’s has become a familiar name for those living in and working in Prince William County.
Many have frequented two local hardware stores owned by the company – Dale City Hardware, 4340 Dale Boulevard; and Woodbine Hardware, 13418 Dumfries Road. Another business can be found in Orange County.
Recently, a new Pitkin’s location has joined the family – Rice Hardware. The business stands at 9124 Mathis Avenue in Manassas.
Pitkin’s Home Center was started by Ron and Tom Pitkin, two brothers from Schroon Lake, NY. Their father, Larry, owned Pitkin Hardware in the 1950s.
After Ron Pitkin retired from the Navy in 1978, the siblings purchased Handyman Hardware in Dale City.
Later on, Tom Pitkin bought out Ron Pitkin and ran the store until his retirement in the early 2000s. Two of Tom’s daughters, Sarah and Amy, now run the company.
Pitkin’s Home Center gives back to the community in many ways. It assists local non-profits, including The Arc of Greater Prince William, the Boys & Girls Clubs, and Didlake.
The company also supports events and programs, like the Dale City Fourth of July Parade, hockey leagues, and the Brentsville horticulture program run by Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS).
