Students visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps have another place where they can learn and work together.
The Triangle-based museum has a new multipurpose classroom.
Located at 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, the museum features an assortment of exhibits about the marine corps’ history.
According to a release, the new classroom is sponsored by the Young Marines, a non-profit in Dumfries that offers programs for kids 8 years old and older.
A ribbon cutting for the classroom took place on February 16.
“The Marine Corps inspired the Young Marines program as it was founded more than 60 years ago by Marine Corps Veterans,” Young Marines Executive Director and CEO Col William Davis USMC, retired, said in a release. “It’s only fitting that the Young Marines has a presence here in the sacred home for Marine Corps history.”
More than 53,000 kids visited the museum last year, according to Marine Corps Heritage Foundation President and CEO Maj. Gen. James Kessler, USMC, retired.
“Many of these students will be able to use this classroom for group sessions,” Kessler said in a release.
