Two middle school principals have been selected by the county school system.
Mike Nicely is the new principal of Stonewall Middle School in Sudley and Joe Murgo will lead “Potomac Shores” Middle School in Dumfries, according to a release from Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS).
Nicely is replacing John Miller, who is retiring.
Throughout his educational career, Nicely has had various roles. They include serving as an assistant principal at Hampton Middle School in Woodbridge and an administrative intern at Stonewall Middle School and Marsteller Middle School in Bristow.
“I am honored to join Stonewall Middle School and look forward to continuing a tradition of excellence, high expectations, and success for all of our students,” Nicely said in a release. “I am excited to work with such a strong and dedicated staff, and I am eager to begin building relationships within our community.
He earned his bachelor’s in history and masters in education leadership from George Mason University (GMU).
Murgo has worked in PWCS for 18 years.
In addition to serving as Principal of Ronald Wilson Reagan Middle School in Haymarket, he was an assistant principal for Saunders Middle School in Dale City.
Murgo is a former administrative intern for Gainesville Middle School and summer school principal for Stonewall Middle School.
He received his bachelor’s in education and masters in education leadership from GMU.
“I am excited for the opportunity to serve as the first principal of ‘Potomac Shores’ Middle School,” Murgo said in a release. “I am looking forward to getting to know the community and building a thriving and family-oriented school.”
Located at 17851 Woods View Drive, “Potomac Shores” Middle School is expected to open for the 2021-22 school year. Its name will be chosen later this year.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place in May 2019.
