Community members have experienced stress and faced obstacles because of COVID-19.
An upcoming event is raising awareness about mental health challenges and sharing available resources.
Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) Chair Ann Wheeler’s Office and Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey are hosting the Stepping Out of COVID – Walking into Wellness – 5K Mental Health Awareness Walk.
“It is our pleasure to be able to support and engage the entire Prince William County in a collaborative effort around mental health awareness,” Bailey said in a statement. “This is not district specific, all of our families, our entire community has been impacted by the issues and challenges in this space and creating a safe and socially distant venue where people can come out, get information and learn about the resources that are available to them, and how to help and support themselves and their family is great.”
The program is running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 8 at Prince William Forest Park, 18170 Park Entrance Road in Triangle, according to a release from the Office of Communications.
Attendees can participate in a yoga session and walk along one of two trails.
They will also be able to learn about resources and receive information from mental health care providers.
Anyone unable to participate in person may take part virtually.
Registration and more details about the Stepping Out of COVID – Walking into Wellness – 5K Mental Health Awareness Walk can be found on Bailey’s website.
