Many individuals who are in need don’t know where or when they will receive their next meal.
More than 893,000 Virginia residents are facing hunger, according to Feeding America.
A local non-profit is combating this issue through a meal packing event.
House of Mercy is hosting its seventh annual Campaign to End Hunger at is business complex in Manassas.
It will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 6, according to a release.
This year, volunteers are trying to pack 110,000 meals that will distributed through various organizations, including Action in Community Through Service (ACTS), Food for Others, and Northern Virginia Family Service’s SERVE program.
“This is an exciting event to bring awareness of the need in the community and to bring people together for a fun day of service,” House of Mercy Executive Director Jessica Root said in a release. “We are hoping to double our fundraising goal this year and raise $40,000 to continue our mission of ‘making God’s love visible to those in need’ by providing meals. We cannot do it without the support of our volunteers, food packers, and sponsors.”
Those interested in registering for the campaign can do so in person, online, or by mailing the request and payment to House of Mercy.
Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Bristow and Closets by Design are supporting the event.
House of Mercy is still seeking sponsors to help it reach its $40,000 fundraising goal.
Businesses that would like to help can find more information on the organization’s website.
