Organizations are joining forces to address the worldwide issue of hunger.
From 9 a.m. to Noon on March 23, Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) will hold a meal packing event.
Last year, church attendees, members of the Woodbridge Rotary Club, and local volunteers packed more than 32,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger, a non-profit. They hope to surpass that number next month.
“These meals will be distributed to those folks who are in need around the world,” LCOC Pastor Darcy Tillman said. “A lot of them are given to children to try to encourage the children to have the energy to go to school and to learn, so that they can make a difference as they grow up.”
Community members who are interested in getting involved may make a donation or sign up to volunteer at the meal packing event.
The program will take place at the church, which is located at 15008 Cloverdale Road in Dale City.
“You can be 4 years old, or you can be 94 years old. So, you can bring your whole family – from grandparents to parents, to children to grandchildren – and come and gather together to pack these meals,” Tillman said. “It’s fun, it’s exciting, and you can make a difference.”
