Lunch is served.
On Wednesday, McDonald’s provided meals to children at the Hylton Boys & Girls Club in Dale City.
The branch, which stands at 5070 Dale Boulevard, also had a few visitors — Senior Vice President of operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington Jim Almond, Senior Director Of Operations for the Virginia region of the Boys & Girls Clubs Of Greater Washington Nadia Pedersen, and Supervisor Andrea Bailey.
“We’re grateful for a community partner, such as McDonald’s, that can provide not only food but the ample resources for our children here in the community,” said Bailey, who is a board member for the Prince William County Boys & Girls Club.
According to Almond, Bailey, helped the Boys & Girls Club get at least $6,500 in donations for scholarships and played an important role in the deep cleaning of the Hylton Club.
The Supervisor participated in the organization when she was growing up.
“It catapulted me into success in my life … as it relates to just having the survival skills within the community, having survival skills within the world, to be a productive citizen,” Bailey explained to What’s Up Prince William.
Three branches are located in Prince William County — the Hylton Club in Dale City, the General Heiser Club in Dumfries, and the Martin K. Alloy Club in Manassas.
The Hylton Club, which reopened last month, is currently serving kids from all of them.
“It gave me great pleasure to be able to open this center, because there was other centers that falls on the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington that opened in the Maryland area,” Hylton Boys & Girls Club Daycare Director Ella Austin told What’s Up Prince William. “So, along with me and some other colleagues, we were able to open this club.”
Staff members are practicing social distancing, checking the temperatures of the children before they enter.
Virtual programming has been a focus of the Boys & Girls Club during the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Boys & Girls Clubs that are open in Maryland and Dale City are also running an array of programs, including recreation and homework assistance.
The Boys & Girls Clubs are accepting donations and seeking food providers.
