Funds raised at a recent event are helping high school seniors pursue college degrees.
The first annual Mayor’s Ball raised $46,000 for area students.
Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood held the program, which occurred at The Fabriek Event Center in Dumfries on April 13.
At least 200 community members were in attendance.
In addition to raising funds for scholarships, the event recognized individuals, businesses and organizations.
“Mayor Derrick Wood has created an event to celebrate our heroes, as well as the feel good moment of the year for the Town of Dumfries,” Councilwoman Cydny Neville said in a release. “I’m so glad that our [living legends] were able to smell their roses.”
