The City of Manassas has been ranked third in “Virginia’s Safest Cities” by SafeHome, a home security company.
According to SafeHome, Virginia is one of the highest earning states in the nation, with many of its counties in the top 100 wealthiest in the country. And this in some ways can be linked to some of the lower crime rates in cities and localities across Virginia, says SafeHome.
More on the methodology for ranking the localities here.
The company looked at the population, citizen-to-officer ratio, the number of violent crimes, the number of property crimes, the trending on violent crime and property crimes, and use it to calculate a “safety score”.
The City of Manassas has a population of 42,977 residents and has a citizen-to-officer ratio of 369. The total for violent crimes is 91, with a violent crime trend of -35.5%. Property crimes totaled 757 and the property crime trend was 3.3%.
With these totals, SafeHome calculated 84.11 out of 100 as the city’s safety score, earning it the third spot for safest in the state.
