Two Manassas students were honored at this year’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Annual Education Awards.
According to a release, Osbourn High School student Brianna Stumpf and Mayfield Intermediate student Olesya Stavrov were honored for their entries into the VFW youth essay competition and scholarship program.
The Francis Cannon Post 7589 held the awards ceremony.
Stavrov was awarded second place for her essay that she submitted about her views on democracy. Her submission was a part of the Patriot Pen program for the VFW and this year’s essay theme was “The America I Believe In”, according to a release.
Stumpf was awarded Honorable Mention for her submission as part of the Voice of Democracy program. The theme for their audio essays this year was “My Responsibility to America”, stated a release.
