The Manassas School Board has selected two student representatives to serve alongside the board for the 2017-2018 school year.
Both Osbourn High School Seniors, Everildo Hernandez Morales and Ethan Anderson were recently appointed by the school board.
According to a release, every year the school board appoints student representatives to serve in a non-voting, advisory capacity, to act as the voice of Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) students.
“The position provides students the opportunity to serve their community and to gain a more thorough understanding of city and school governance and its role in creating an effective learning environment for every child in the school system. The student representative will represent all students on issues and policies that directly affect the student body by playing an active role in Board discussion,” stated a release.
Morales’ and Anderson’s appointment will be in effect until June 30, 2018.
More on Morales and Anderson, from a release:
Ever has attended MCPS since second grade. He said his familiarity with the students of MCPS and his participation in Osbourn’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Student Site Team provides him the unique opportunity to help bring student concerns to the forefront of the decision making process.
Ethan said he plans to meet his new position on the Board with the same motivation, willpower and perseverance he’s shown so far in his academic career. He hopes his experience as an AVID recruitment volunteer as well as his participation in advanced placement and honors courses will show students they have a voice when it comes to their education. As a former student body congressman, he plans to increase student involvement to improve the school experience.
