Manassas Park residents can feel secure in their home city, according to a recent ranking.
Manassas Park has been named one of Virginia’s safest cities for the second consecutive year.
This week, the National Council for Home Safety and Security released its list for the top 10 “Safest Cities in Virginia for 2018.”
Manassas Park ranked #3, following Blacksburg and Vienna. Last year, Manassas Park ranked #6 among the top 20 safest cities in Virginia.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security reviews population data, internal research and the FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics to determine the safest cities, according the national council’s website.
The rankings are based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes for every 1,000 residents.
Manassas Park, which has a population of about 15,900, had 1.51 violent crimes and 10.06 property crimes per 1,000 people.
Cities that didn’t submit a complete crime report to the FBI or that had a population of less than 10,000 were not considered.
