An international organization has awarded a local fire and rescue captain with a unique distinction.
Captain Matthew Fox from the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue Department has become a Fire Officer (FO).
He is one of 448 individuals worldwide and the first from the city to receive the recognition, according to a release.
The voluntary program seeks to recognize those who show excellence in seven areas — professional development, education, experience, community involvement, professional contributions, technical competence and association membership.
Applicants must determine a professional development plan, as well.
The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) awards individuals with the recognition after they have met the requirements.
CPC is a part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc. It is made up of representatives from various organizations.
To keep the designation, which is valid for three years, awardees must demonstrate growth.
