Following an extensive search, Steven Burke has been named Director of Public Works for the City of Manassas, according to a release.
In his new role, Burke will be responsible for daily operations within the city’s Public Works department, including streets, traffic controls, vehicle maintenance, buildings and ground management, cemeteries, horticulture, stormwater and trash, and recycling programs, according to a release.
“Steven brings a tremendous quality and variety of experience with him to the City of Manassas. I look forward to having him as part of our senior management team,” stated City Manager Patrick Pate in a release.

Burke comes to the City with more than 20 years of experience in local government, first in Pinellas County, Florida and then in Front Royal, Virginia. During his tenure at Front Royal, Burke served as Town Engineer, Interim Director of Planning and Zoning, Director of Public Works, and Director of Environmental Services. In 2010, Burke was selected as Town Manager, where he was responsible for 174 employees serving 15,038 residents.
Steven Burke has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Virginia Local Government Management Association. Burke will begin his career with the City of Manassas on Nov. 28, 2016.
