The Literacy Volunteers of America Prince William chapter (LVA-PW) held an ice cream social in Dale City to recognize their dedicated volunteers.
According to a release, LVA-PW is a “community based literacy organization whose mission is to teach adults the life-changing skills of reading, writing, and speaking English.”
The social was held at Dale City Volunteer Fire Department’s Station 13.
Over its 26-years in the Prince William-area, LVA-PW has grown to help almost 700 adult learners with the help of 220 professionally trained tutors, according to a release.

Five-year service awards were given to volunteers Jean Cook, Lenny Fennimore, John Sofranac, Davine Irving, Rodney Teixeira, Jayne Speck, and Kristine Jankovits.
Ten-year service awards were given to volunteers Judith Bugbee, Martha Kobliska, Angelique Culp, Joe Schu, and Ken Ikeda.
A twenty-year service award was rewarded to Mary Langley.
A twenty-five-year service award was awarded to Judith Silcox.
The Student of the Year award recipient was Noris Quintanilla.
Tutor of the Year award recipients were Amy Feinberg and Alison Prevost.
The Patti J. Beattie Volunteer of the Year Award recipient Patti J. Beattie.
