A new development is being built in Woodbridge area near Occoquan.
According to Prince William County Chamber of Commerce documents, the Rivergate Development is now underway after a delayed start of more than 11-years.
The property was originally zoned for the development back in 2005, and IDI Group Companies, the developer behind the project, held the property through the recession before proceeding with the development.
Chamber documents show that the property will be located immediately adjacent to the Occoquan Harbor Marina, and “will be developed as a luxury riverfront community.”
IDI Group Companies was a developer for several well-known properties including Watergate in Washington, D.C., according to a Chamber presentation.
Two five-story mid-rise buildings will be built as part of the Rivergate development, with a total of 720 units that will be a mixture of rentals and privately owned units, according to Chamber documents.
According to a Chamber presentation, each building will have a fitness center, business center, resident lounge, and an outdoor pool.
“This will be a high density residential condo community. When the county considers rezoning, they take into account how the density and anticipated service demands of the proposed development. There is a demand for apartment and condominium housing options in Prince William County, which this project would address,” stated Prince William County Communications Director Jason Grant.
Construction on the site began in August, and 2018 is the projected completion date for the first of the two buildings on the property, stated Chamber documents.
Construction on the second building will not begin until the first building is completed and occupied, stated Chamber documents.
