In today’s busy society connectivity is relying more and more on technology. People are not relating to each other on a face to face, hand to hand or heart to heart basis, yet a number of groups throughout our community are trying to change that and get back to the neighbors helping neighbors feel that communities had in the past. One such group is Lutheran Church of the Covenant located on Cloverdale Road in Dale City.
The church’s mission includes service to the community and it accomplishes this in a variety of creative ways, some simple and some more involved. These service projects have included Trunk or Treat, Operation Turkey for ACTS and a local elementary school, Breakfast with Santa, Untrim-a-Tree gifts for children in need, and the upcoming Breakfast with the Easter Bunny taking place April 8th at 9:00 a.m. at the church.
In addition to such events, the church regularly provides cards and gifts to students away at college and those serving in the military, letting them know they are remembered. One of the main ministries of the church is an ongoing partnership with Neabsco Elementary which is just down the road from the church. This year-round partnership includes providing non-perishable food staples to be sent home each week with children in need; keeping a clothes closet available for the school’s counselors for any students in need; and providing volunteer hours from the congregation to read with the children or help with other school activities.
The church was very pleased to expand this partnership last fall by working with the Dale City Civic Association, Woodbridge Rotary, and Bel Air Woman’s Club as well as local businesses, allowing for distribution of 70 backpacks filled with supplies for children at Neabsco Elementary as well as supplies for each school in the Neabsco District of Prince William County.
All of this shows that people who have a heart for service and a passion for helping others CAN and DO make a difference. Lutheran Church of the Covenant welcomes everyone in the community to join them at Sunday services at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.
