Area members of the Occoquan District Boy Scouts attended the 2016 Iceland International Jamboree at the Ulfljotsvatn Scout Center this summer.
During the Jamboree, Scouts took part in canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, cooking, archery, a hike with an overnight campout, and interacting with Scouts from thirteen countries.
The local Scouts and Scout representatives that attended the Jamboree were Justin Youtz, Shari Youtz, Tristin Youtz, and Jimmy Spoo.
The President of Iceland Olafur Gimsson visited the Jamboree, and met with Scouts. The U.S. Ambassador to Iceland, Robert Barber, also visited with the Scouts during the event.
While at the Jamboree, U.S. Scouts and some international Scouts participated in a service project, planting more than 2,500 trees under the supervision of Iceland’s Forest Service.
The experience gave the chance for local Scouts to participate in fun outdoor activities, and to meet with Scouts from around the world.
