Take me out to the ball game. Or to be more specific, to the Virginia 2016 9/10 State Tournament for Little League baseball.
The tournament, which is being held at George Hellwig Memorial Park at 14420 Bristow Road in Manassas, includes 16 teams of nine and ten year old baseball players.
“They’ve all won their respective districts, and they’re competing for the title of Virginia State Champion,” said State Tournament Coordinator Chris Thom.
According to Thom, the 31-game tournament kicked off last Friday, and the final championship game will be taking place tomorrow night.
“We started off the event with an opening ceremony on Thursday, at Forest Park High School, where we fed almost 600 people, and did an opening ceremony, culminated by…31 games over five days,” said Thom.
For Coles Little League to be chosen was a great honor for the team, according to Thom. The tournament tool more than $20,000 to coordinate and put on, said Thom.
The championship winning team at the tournament will go on to compete with other South East region championship teams.
