Bennett Elementary School in Manassas has created a “Legacy Wall” for its fifth graders.
Shelley Pohzehl, Principal, was inspired by a similar project at Ron Clark Academy in Georgia, according to a press release from Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS).
Pohzehl worked collaboratively with Courtney Strauss, Instructional Technology Coach (ITC), to develop the project.
The purpose of the wall is to “build ownership and pride among the fifth grade class,” Pohzehl voiced.
Students were given the homework assignment to select a quote that resonated with them. They picked quotes ranging from sayings their family members told them, to quotes they made up themselves.
Strauss took photos of the students, and worked with the Parent-Teacher Organization, PTO, to frame them on a wall inside Bennett Elementary.
At the conclusion of the school year, the students will take their images home. The frames will be filled with next year’s fifth grade legacy.
