Students can change the world.
That’s the theme of this year’s Summer Youth Academy, a two-week summer camp for rising middle and high school students, run by Leadership Prince William.
“We are a community organization serving Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park with adult and youth leadership programs,” said Leadership Prince William Executive Director Kathy Bentz.
Leadership Prince William is run through the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, and offers several leadership programs throughout the year for people in the community that want to get involved. The camp sessions are held all over the county, and include group discussions, hands-on activities, and field trips – all with a community focus.
“[They] get a great experience, learning more about their community, connecting with each other, and learning how to be current and future leaders in our community,” said Bentz.
Several Leadership Prince William adult program graduates stop by the camp, to interact with the children, and talk with them about leadership opportunities in Prince William County.
“People come from all walks of the community – religious, non-profit, government, business…and they come together and they collaborate from many different perspectives. And I think it helps you learn not only a lot about the community,” said Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney and program graduate Bradley Marshall.
This year, Micron and Youth for Tomorrow were the camp’s primary sponsors.
