Feeding 30,000 people may seem like a daunting task, but that isn’t stopping one Dale City church from lending a helping hand.
Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) is partnering with non-profit Rise Against Hunger to feed 30,000 people.
The Dale City church and volunteers plan to pack 30,000 meals on March 10 at 15008 Cloverdale Road.
But before the packing can begin, they must raise $8,700 for supplies.
More than $5,200 has been collected so far, according to Pastor Darcy Tillman
To help meet its fundraising goal, LCOC and the Woodbridge Rotary hosted a Chili Cook Off last month.
The event, held at the church, was attended by 95 people and raised $1,400.
“The fundraiser was truly a community event – an example of the fun that can be shared and the difference that we can make as we work together,” Tillman wrote in an email.
The church is still collecting donations and seeking volunteers for the packing event.
Those interested in making a donation or signing up to volunteer can do so online. They can also sign up to volunteer by email Patti Beattie at email@example.com.
