Members of the Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) dropped off 102 backpacks for children in need at Neabsco Elementary School in Dale City.
“In those backpacks is all the supplies – pencils, erasers, quite a few of the kindergarten and first grade backpacks will have underwear in them as well. And they will be given out to the students that are most in need,” said Neabsco Elementary School Counselor Jennifer Brooks.
According to LCOC member and volunteer Patti Beattie, the backpacks were prepared for students from kindergarten through fifth grade.
Located at 15008 Cloverdale Road, this is the second year that LCOC has run the backpack drive.
“We’re so proud and privileged to be able to bring 102 backpacks for the children to use in the upcoming school year,” said Beattie.
LCOC Pastor Darcy Tillman was overjoyed by the generosity of the community.
“Over the last couple of years we have really been intentional about connecting with our neighbors here at Neabsco Elementary School…the generosity of our congregation and beyond, just pulling together – just wanting to make sure that these young people feel loved, and cared for, and that they get a great start to the school year,” said Tillman.
