Vehicle thefts are being prevented through a Dumfries event.
On September 25, the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) and the Virginia State Police’s H.E.A.T. Program are running a VIN etching program.
During the free event, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will be permanently marked on a car’s windows.
This process can deter thieves, because it makes it more difficult for them to get rid of vehicles, according to a release from PWCPD.
VIN-etched windows must be replaced and they can’t be sold through chop shops.
The upcoming event will occur from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Triangle Shopping Plaza, 18109 Triangle Shopping Plaza.
Community members must bring a valid driver’s license and their registration. Only those on the registration may approve the VIN etching process.
Individuals who would like additional information can contact Master Police Officer Marcia Whaley from the PWCPD by calling 703-792-7270.
