There will be lane closures on I-66, starting this weekend.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), there will be nighttime rotating lane closures on I-66 at Route 15, while work crews install overhangs at the new Route 15 overpass.
On the eastbound lanes of I-66 there will be single lane closures from October 9 through October 11, beginning around 8 p.m. each night, according to a release. At 10 p.m. each night, all eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 15’s exit and entrance ramps, and back onto I-66. The lanes will reopen as normal by 5 a.m., stated a release.
On the westbound lanes of I-66 there will be single lane closures from October 12 to October 14, beginning around 9 p.m. each night, stated a release. Around 10 p.m. each night, westbound traffic will be detoured onto Route 15’s exit and entrance ramps, and all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m., according to a release.
“The work is part of the I-66 and Route 15 diverging-diamond interchange I-66 and Route 15 diverging-diamond interchange project. Diverging-diamond interchanges shift vehicles to the opposite side of the road and eliminate left turns that cross into oncoming traffic, improving safety. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017,” stated a release.
Police will be on-site to direct traffic, stated a release.
