A local organization is helping feed those in need and keeping youth warm this winter.
Lake Ridge Rotary Club recently held its Done-In-A-Day Food & Coat Drive. The program typically takes place each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, according to President Wavery Brown.
Through the drive, food was collected for fellowship house.
“We sponsor the fellowship house on a lot of events and [the] food drive is basically to make sure that we fill the pantry for the fellowship house,” Brown told What’s Up Prince William.
Fellowship house wasn’t the only group that benefited from the donations, however. Larger non-perishable items were divided up and brought to Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) and StreetLight Community Outreach Ministries. The three organizations received toilet trees, as well.
Members of the Lake Ridge Rotary Club also gathered 35 coats for children from Belmont Elementary School in Woodbridge. Those at the fellowship house contributed much needed clothing, too. Last month, some of the residents knitted 100 caps for the kids.
