To celebrate their 80th birthday, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is offering a special deal on July 14.
“Guests can enjoy a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 80 cents with the purchase of any dozen at regular menu price that day at participating shops in the United States and Canada,” stated a release.
While Krispy Kreme has more than 1,300 retail shops around the world, the closest location for Prince William residents is the Manassas location on Liberia Avenue, which opened up last year.
We caught up with the District Manager for the Manassas location, Peter Brito, to talk about the history of Krispy Kreme and how they’re celebrating 80 years in business.
“80 years ago on the 14th July, Vernon Rudolph opened up his first commissary – supplying donuts to local grocery stores. The smell of these donuts – as you can probably well imagine – enticed people from all around Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to come to this commissary, where he decided to start selling the donuts fresh off the line,” said Brito.
According to Brito, Krispy Kreme’s donut recipe has not changed once in their 80-years. Rudolph purchased the secret donut recipe from a New Orleans chef back in 1937, according to Krispy Kreme’s website.
