Keep Prince William Beautiful and the Prince William Chamber of Commerce hosted a talk on the environment and communities titled “How to Save the Environment, and Make Money Too” in Woodbridge.
The talk was held at Old Hickory Golf Club, and the keynote speaker was former Mayor of Clarksburg, West Virginia and author of “The Amazing City: Seven Steps to an Amazing City”.
Hunt spoke about Prince William County, the uniqueness of so many cities in America, and how people have gotten involved to improve their communities.
“As I travel around the country, and I’m invited to a lot of amazing places, and I’m speaking about creating amazing cities – amazing areas – and one of the unique things is that people that reach out to want to hear about creating amazing cities is a lot like people that read self-help books and goal-oriented books. They go to the bookstore and they probably know exactly what’s already in the book, but they think ‘If I can get one little kernel out of that book, it will be an investment that’s worthwhile,’” said Hunt.
During his talk, Hunt shared stories about community clean ups and improvement projects that he managed in West Virginia. He also stressed the importance of connecting with elected officials about the priorities and needs you see for the community.
“There’s nothing trendy about this – this is our lives. This is what we can do and what legacy we’ll leave to our children and our grandchildren. And I for one, I just can’t leave this Earth without knowing that I did a little bit about [helping the environment],” said Hunt.
