A new group is giving runners an opportunity to help the environment while exercising.
Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) is launching “Prince William Ploggers,” according to a release.
Members of the group — which is based on the Swedish trend of “plogging” — will pick up litter while jogging.
“Keep Prince William Beautiful works with hundreds of volunteers every year, but for those who are joggers or walkers, and want to pick-up litter along their route, we want to help them make that happen,” KPWB Executive Director Jason Parsons said in a release. “Those who join the Prince William Ploggers and log their volunteer hours with KPWB will be provided bags, grabbers and other supplies. We believe Prince William County citizens can be among the first adopters in the United States of this new fitness and environmental stewardship phenomenon.”
The group is designed for “fitness enthusiasts” who want to keep Prince William County clean.
“What a fun way to inspire more people to take action to be environmental stewards,” Parson said. “We hope to see folks plogging from Woodbridge to Haymarket.”

Ploggers can share pictures and activities on social media by including “#plogging” in their Facebook and Twitter posts.
