Kayakers and canoers will soon have a new way to enter the Occoquan River.
Occoquan has been awarded a grant from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
It’s going to be used to build a launch ramp under the Route 123 bridge and near the municipal building parking lot, according to an E-Newsletter from Mayor Earnest W. Porta Jr.
Officials anticipate that the ramp will be finished at the end of 2019 and open up to the public in spring 2020.
The town applied and were approved for the grant eight years ago. Due to costs, regulations and staffing, the project was delayed.
