A COVID-19 vaccine is becoming available again.
The Johnson and Johnson vaccine will be offered in the Prince William Health District (PWHD).
It was put on hold while officials investigated a possible side effect. Within a couple of weeks of receiving the dose, six women developed a disorder that’s connected with blood clots.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found the Johnson and Johnson vaccine prevents COVID-19 safely and effectively, and the advantages surpass the possible risks.
It is 93 percent effective at preventing hospital visits. The dose also fights off serious illness and death, as well as different versions of the virus.
There is a small possibility of developing blood clots and having a low amount of platelets. Officials are still looking into the side effects.
Vaccine recipients should seek medical attention or reach out to the health care provider that administered the vaccine if they have the following symptoms within three weeks:
- Backache
- Blurred vision
- Fainting
- Leg swelling
- New bruising or bleeding
- Severe headache
- Severe abdomen, stomach, or chest pain
- Seizures
- Shortness of breath
The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is available for adults.
