Visitors of Mission BBQ in Woodbridge are going to see a familiar face on one of the walls.
A photo of former Supervisor John Jenkins is being displayed at the restaurant, which is located at 13890 Shoppers Best Way.
It was unveiled on July 21, his 80th birthday.
Family and friends gathered at Mission BBQ to remember Jenkins, the county’s longest-serving supervisor.
“We want to thank Mission BBQ for the honor that you’ve shown to Dad through the years actually —not just today — but especially today as you … honor him in a very special way with this unveiling,” Gordon Jenkins, John Jenkins’ son, said at the unveiling.
John Jenkins, who passed away in February, was on the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) for 36 years.
The Neabsco District representative was a two-tour Vietnam veteran and received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
After retiring from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980, he worked for Fairfax County Public Schools.
