Manassas residents have an opportunity to serve their city in another capacity.
City Council has an opening for an interim council member.
It’s accepting applications for the position until 5 p.m. on July 12, according to a release from the City of Manassas.
The selected candidate will serve in Vice Mayor Ken Elston’s seat until a special election occurs in November.
Elston announced his plan to resign at the end of July last month. He’s accepting a position as the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences and Director of Performing Arts at High Point University in North Carolina.
Those interested in being considered the interim council member role may apply on the City of Manassas website.

A public meeting on the candidates will occur on July 25. Another meeting may take place on July 26. The City Council plans to choose an applicant by August 12.
