Last weekend, the Hylton Performing Arts Center held their 7th anniversary gala.
More on the gala, from a release:
The evening opened with a warm welcome by Rick Davis, Executive Director of the Hylton Center and Dean of George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, which was followed by a special presentation on behalf of the U.S. Congress by Congressman Gerry Connolly in honor of Mary and Hans Postma.
About 370 guests enjoyed a dinner, provided by Susan Gage Caterers, while being serenaded by a small ensemble from the Youth Orchestras of Prince William. Following dinner, Rick Davis acknowledged the elected officials, George Mason University officials, members of the Gala Committee, and the Hylton Center Executive Board members in attendance – a full list of VIPs is attached. George Mason University’s President Dr. Ángel Cabrera also gave remarks, recognizing Mary Postma and the work being done on the Science and Technology Campus in association with the progress of the Faster Farther campaign.
Following President Cabrera, Amelia Garcia, co-chair, made a presentation in honor of Mary and Hans Postma, and Rick Davis presented an award to Mary Postma. Mary Postma thanked the audience and gave a moving address, encouraging others to “dig deep” to find how they can make a difference in the community.
The Gala program then featured a lively live auction, where two vacation packages were auctioned off. Barbara Ghadban, co–chair, led an address about the Veterans and the Arts Initiative, followed by a quick video regarding the Initiative. The auctioneer then led a “Raise Your Paddle” to raise funds for the Initiative, which raised over $22,000. After the auction, guests joined an After Party, sponsored by KO Distilling, which included craft cocktails, sweet and savory bites, music and dancing with local band Keynote, a live DJ, a photo station, a Giving Wall, and prizes.
The Gala raised more than $165,000 which will support the performances and programs at the Hylton Center, including our educational programs and Veterans and the Arts Initiative. A portion of the proceeds will also support the Hylton Center’s Endowment, ensuring artistic excellence now and in the years to come.
