Do you have an adorable pet? Well, a couple of those photos you’ve taken of them can be put to good use.
The Humane Society of Northern Virginia (HSNV) has begun its annual calendar contest.
Until August 21, community members may submit a photo (or two) of their pets and vote on those uploaded. The 13 winners will be featured in next year’s calendar.
It’s free to enter a photo, but it shouldn’t be blurry or include any people. Community members from all over the United States may cast a vote, according to HSNV President Lynda Streeper. Each vote costs $1.
“[For] our very first calendar, it actually came down to the last second,” Streeper said. “We had a battle for the cover.”
Submissions aren’t limited to cats and dogs. Last year, pictures of chickens and bunnies were turned in.
Goofy photos as well as those featuring service animals and pets wearing costumes are welcome.
“It’s just exciting, it’s fun,” Streeper explained. “People get to participate, showcase their animals, and … the pets don’t have to be rescued. It’s just your pets.

Calendars will be available for purchase at the humane society, 17983 Dumfries Shopping Plaza in Dumfries, and events the non-profit hosts this fall.
Powered by Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets (A3P), HSNV is a non-profit that began operating last year.
