House of Mercy needs volunteers to assist with their “Campaign to End Hunger”.
For the past seven years, the Manassas-based non-profit has hosted a meal-packing event to feed the area’s poor and malnourished.
The event will take place this year on October 7, and the food packed will be given to the House of Mercy Food Pantry, Food for Others, and the Banica Mission in the Dominican Republic, according to a release.
“This event will celebrate adults, kids, and groups who are coming together to support House of Mercy and to make a significant contribution of food available to the poor and hungry,” stated House of Mercy Executive Director Ann Cimini in a release.
The event will happen between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the House of Mercy business complex at 8170 Flannery Court.
The goal is for volunteers to pack at least 85,000 meals.
“We actually exceeded our food goal last year. We’re so blessed to provide this help to our community and beyond,” stated Cimini in a release.
More on the fundraiser, from a release:
The Campaign to End Hunger is the major fund raising activity each year for the House of Mercy. The fee to participate in each 2 hour work shift is just $20. There are four shifts available; 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., noon, and 2:00 p.m.
The fee covers the cost of food ingredients for the meals, supplies and shipping, as well as contributing to House of Mercy support and education programs, Cimini said.
“Eighty five cents of each dollar House of Mercy receives goes back into our programs to support and serve the poor,” she continued. Cimini suggested registering quickly. “Only 216 packing positions are available. Usually the 10 o’clock and noon shifts fill quickly,” she said.
