It looks like it’s going to be a hot one this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), 96 degree heat is expected through the rest of the week and the weekend, with a chance for thunderstorms.
NWS is asking people to be careful with heat-related illnesses, and leaving items, kids, or pets outdoors, particularly in cars.
Today, NWS issued an Air Quality Alert in conjunction with the Maryland Department of the Environment, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and District Department of Environment. They have called for Code Orange.
“A Code Orange Air Quality Alert means that air pollutionconcentrations within the region may become unhealthy forsensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, peoplesuffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases andthe elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized byavoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors,” stated NWS.
