Late last night the Town of Haymarket experienced a major water main break.
According to Haymarket police, the water main broke at the intersection of Jefferson and Washington Streets, and repair crews rushed to the scene as water gushed out onto the roadway.
But the trouble didn’t stop there.
“While repairing the water main break at Jefferson and Washington, the Water Authority broke a gas line. Columbia Gas attempted to clamp the line twice with no success. They are now digging further down the street and are going to pinch the line, then repair the original break and then unpinch the secondary line,” stated Haymarket police on their Facebook page.
134 homes are impacted and the gas is projected to be fixed by the end of the day, but water service has been restored, stated Haymarket police. The intersection is currently closed.
