Prince William citizens who are interested in history have a new resource they can take advantage of.
Community members can see the location of historical markers and read their citations by using an application officials have created, according to a release from the county.
“The web application is an innovative presentation of the Historical Commission’s Marker Guide with interactive maps that can be used on any device with a web browser and connection to the internet,” Prince William County Archaeologist Justin Patton said in a release.
The 101 historical markers that are spread across the county cover various topics.
“They identify locations of historic buildings and events,” Patton said. “They also recognize important persons and groups in the county’s shared past.”
Captain John Smith’s exploration of the region and the 22 Civil War battles fought around Manassas are among the events that the markers point out.
