The warmer weather has arrived.
Many community members are choosing to enjoy the change in temperature by using their grill or smoker.
Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue (PWCDFR) has released a few grilling safety tips that could help prevent fires.
Leaving a grill unattended and put a flammable object near the grill are a couple of the leading causes behind outdoor grill fires.
A leak or break in the grill and failing to clean it can also lead to a fire, according to a release.
Grills should be placed away from siding, deck railings, overhanging branches and play areas, according to PWCFR Chief Kevin McGee.
Grill users should purchase the correct starter fluid, which should be stored away from children and sources of heat.
Charcoal starter fluid should not be added when coals or kindling that have been ignited.
McGee also suggests that county residents use long-handled grilling tools, which offer clearance from heat and flames.
Propane grill users should annually check the gas cylinder hose to make sure there aren’t any leaks.
