New immigrants are developing new skills.
Walmart North Stafford awarded a $1,000 grant to Literacy Volunteers of America – Prince William (LVA-PW), according to a release from LVA-PW.
It will be used for the LVA-PW ESL and Job Readiness Program for New Immigrants, which helps participants improve their English and prepare for jobs.
Based out of Dale City, the literacy organization provides classes and individual tutoring on an array of subjects, including reading, writing and GED preparation.
About 10 percent of adults from the literacy non-profit work at Walmart or worked there as their first job in America.
