It’s official – the red light’s coming on.
A Krispy Kreme location will be coming to Manassas, following a unanimous vote from the Manassas City Council.
The Manassas Krispy Kreme will be the first franchise location ever in Northern Virginia, according to Monument Restaurants Director of Operations Mauricio Rivas.
Monument Restaurants will be the company that owns and operates the upcoming location. The opening is part of a mass opening of around 20 franchise locations in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, according to Rivas. Other locations in the area including Fredericksburg and Alexandria are corporate stores, said Rivas.
Krispy Kreme originally started in North Carolina, and became known for their glazed donuts made fresh daily on-site.
The new Krispy Kreme will be located on Liberia Avenue in the David Ford Shopping Center, between the Exxon gas station and the Arby’s near LA Fitness, according to Manassas Economic Development Director Patrick Small.
According to Rivas, groundbreaking is set for late January, with an intended store opening between June and September.
With the new location being the first of its kind in the Prince William County area, it’s fair to ask – why Manassas?
“Manassas has a good community feel to it…the people are great. It’s kind of a big town, but it’s still a pretty tight knit community,” Rivas said.
Their plans for the community
Another thing that Krispy Kreme is known for is their commitment to the community.
Rivas said that Krispy Kreme offers a discount fundraising program, where local groups and organizations can get donuts at a 50% discount to resell at retail – allowing the organizations to keep the 50% profit.
And the locations provide a lot of support for community fundraising.
“Each of our locations gets a marketing coordinator…they do fundraising and they also do community outreach. So they spend a lot of time working in their local community helping schools, teams, and different organizations,” said Rivas.
Additionally, Krispy Kreme gets involved in area career fairs, and they host donut decorating events at area schools, said Rivas.
Oh, and they’re hiring…
While the new Krispy Kreme location isn’t planning to open just yet, they’re already starting the hiring process.
According to Rivas, the Manassas location is planning to hire between 30 and 45 people, and they’ll begin hiring at the end of January.
“We’re big about hiring local people that really know the community,” said Rivas.
