At Gemmis Technologies, we know that installing updates can be a hassle. In most cases however, updates make your computer run faster and more efficiently. You won’t regret updating to Windows 10. At the very least, it is a significant improvement over Windows 8. Here are ten reasons to make the switch.
- The rebuilt Edge browser. The new browser has improved compatibility and speed. Features such as the new-tab page or reading mode, makes Edge practical and efficient.
- Startup speed. This speed boost started with Windows 8, so you’re in for a treat if you never upgraded to 8 and haven’t yet benefited from Windows new speedy startup.
- Cortana. Cortana takes voice commands to a whole new level. Not only can you instruct her on simple commands like: “play music” or “take a note”, you can also use her to set reminders. If you program her to remind you to buy milk, she will bring this up as you pass by supermarkets. Cortana even remembers your interests, letting you know your favorite sports team scores and the traffic conditions for your commute.
- File Navigation. This puts “recent” places in front of you so you don’t have to repetitively navigate to folder locations. It’s a small change that makes a huge difference in efficiency.
- Operating System. Windows 8 was designed for tablets, Windows 10 brings the design back to a laptop focus.
- Notification Center. Just like the iphone, Windows 10 utilizes pop up notifications. The Action Center shows messages from email, updates, or apps. It will remind you about a birthday or warn you about bad weather. You can return to these notifications even after reading them.
- Touch. There’s some hesitation about laptop touch screens, stemming mostly from criticisms about fingerprints on the screen. But at this point, almost every screen you own is a touch screen and it is not only practical but more convenient.
- Security. There are three new security features for Windows 10: Device Guard, Microsoft Passport and Windows Hello. While Windows 10 uses the same Secure boot feature from Windows 8, it is even more secure because it requires codes that run when OS starts to be signed by Microsoft or the hardware maker.
- Apps. The productivity and media apps that come with Windows 10 are slicker and more powerful. There’s everything from new Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, Mail, and Calendar. If you need to find software for large or small tasks, Windows 10 helps you do this and allows you to run apps as a full screen or windowed.
- The Start Menu. This was a big complaint about Windows 8 that Microsoft took to heart and fixed. The start screen of 8 has been replaced by a start menu that still utilizes tile-based appendage to keep it touch screen capable.
