Businesses and organizations are coming together to assist government workers who are affected by the shutdown.
Call to Action Community Partners is hosting a Furlough Resource Fair for residents of Prince William and Stafford counties.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 30 at Competitive Edge Athletic Performance Center in Woodbridge.
Participants will be able to pick up groceries and receive guidance from financial advisors, according to Former Delegate Michael Futrell.
“What we want to do is to be able to create an opportunity to show some assistance, because what we’ve realized is — to get through this crisis, it’s going to take each and every one of us coming together,” Futrell said.
Event organizers don’t just want to provide attendees with resources, they also want to give them hope.
“When you’re going through something like this, at times it feels like you’re going through it by yourself,” Futrell said. “And so what we want to be able to showcase is that the community is going to be able to come together and show support for our brothers and sisters, and we’re looking forward to all that’s going to entail.”
Government workers can register for the Furlough Resource Fair on eventbrite.
More information about the event can be found on the Prince William & Stafford County Resources for Furloughed Workers Facebook page.
