Families across Prince William County are facing debt for school lunches.
A local non-profit is raising funds to help pay it off.
During the holidays, Settle the Debt hopes to collect $30,000 that will benefit students at 20 schools.
Founded in April 2017, Settle the Debt seeks to reduce lunch debt and end shaming, according to a release from the non-profit.
Since Adelle Settle started the Gainesville-based organization, which began as a campaign, $50,000 has been paid off.
Settle has partnered with Virginia Delegate Danica Roem on a bill that focuses on lunch debt.
Individuals and organizations interested in donating may email Settle at adelle@settlethedebt.org.
They can make a donation on the Settle the Debt website, or send checks that are made out to “Settle the Debt” to 7204 Forkland Way, Gainesville, VA, 20155.
