The David G. Brickley Youth Environmental and Conservation Award has gone to Prince William County students every year, honoring their efforts in protecting the environment.
Tyler Kirkland, a student at Freedom High School In Woodbridge, was the 2022 recipient.
The award was presented to him on March 29 by David Brickley, Founder and President Emeritus of National Memorial Trail Alliance, along with Monique Raulston Ratliff, the Dale City Civic Association (DCCA) President.
“Know that, in years to come, you’re going to be the person that helps solve our problems in the environment and conservation, and we look forward to your leadership,” Brickley said to Kirkland when presenting the award.
Brickley was the head of the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the entire State of Virginia. There, he worked on natural resources conservation and environmental care. Before this, he served as a legislator and chaired the state parks sub-committee.
