Dogs and cats have a way of escaping sometimes. A free event is helping pet owners locate them if they do.
The Humane Society of Northern Virginia (HSNV) and Pearl Veterinary Hospital are hosting a Microchip Clinic on Saturday.
Beginning at 10 a.m., the program will be held at Pearl Veterinary Hospital, 4074 Squire Lane in Triangle. It continues until 2 p.m., or when the organizers run out of microchips, according to an email from HSNV Director Sherry Turner.
Fi and 911PetChip are donating the microchips, which are permanent and can’t be tampered with.
Many pets do not have these devices, and some don’t have the owner’s correct contact information. So, the microchip registration will be done by volunteers.
On top of having a microchip, pets should have a collar that fits well and features an ID tag with details about how someone can reach the owner.
